Who we are

Ten Thousand Villages is more than a store.  It’s a place where you can explore and connect with your global village.

From communities throughout the developing world, every inspired design is crafted with love using local materials (usually natural or recycled) and time-honored skills by makers we have known and worked with for years. Every purchase improves the lives of makers by supporting their craft and providing a fair, stable income. We offer a way for you to become part of the story, to shop your values and give gifts with meaning.

Because this is bigger than us. It takes a village….

baskets.jpg

Baskets from Uganda.

Handmade beauty from Ugandan traditional artisans. The interior fiber forming the core of each coil is banana stalk, around which raffia palm is wrapped. With each wrapping, the fiber is threaded through the previous coil to form the basket.

Uganda Crafts markets crafts for artisans and provides training in quality control, design and marketing. One of the missions of Uganda Crafts is to provide hope to disabled people, youth and those suffering from HIV/AIDS. Uganda Crafts employs approximately 300 artisans in five workshops or cooperatives, 85 percent of them women.
